A formal Setting for a Formal Home
Because of the formal nature of the house architecture, the grounds demanded a formal treatment to complement it. A series of gardens were designed to ring the house each area distinctly different from each other. Similar to the interior of the house, the exterior landscape was laid out as a series of rooms all serving specific purposes.
The grade of the land was formed outside of the house so that there was an easy transition from inside to out.
